New Film Adaptation of LORD OF THE FLIES To Be Helmed By SUSPIRIA Director Luca Guadagnino

William Golding’s classic novel Lord of the Flies is being being adapted into a feature film again and this time it looks like it’ll be directed by Luca Guadagnino, who is best known for his work on Call Me by Your Name and Suspiria.

Lord of the Flies is a favorite book of mine and I liked both the 1963 film adaptation as well as the 1990 film. It was only a matter of time before the story got another film adaptation. Warner Bros. has been looking to get the movie off the ground since 2017.

The story follows a group of school boys who end up stranded on a deserted island and over time they descend into a savage social order. At one point, the studio had the idea of having this new adaption focus on a group of school girls, but according to the report, that plan has been scrapped and it will still follow the group of boys.

The director plans to develop a story that “stays true to the text but with a contemporary, ultra-kinetic feel.” I liked what Guadagnino did with Suspiria and I’m curious to see what he is planning for this Lord of the Flies film.

The filmmaker is currently in pre-production on the HBO miniseries We Are Who We Are and he isn’t expected to start working on Lord of the Flies until he’s finished with that project.
