New FIREFLY Comic to Focus on Our Mrs. Reynolds

BOOM! Studios have been doing some great work making comics for beloved franchises and next year, it’s looking to up their game. The studio already has the comic rights to Firefly, but next year, they’re debuting a new title under the Firefly banner. Firefly: Bad Company will focus on the fan-favorite character Saffron.

In the show, Saffron was played by Christina Hendricks and appeared in two episodes; the first of which features her getting married to Malcolm Reynolds (played by Nathan Fillion). Bad Company will tie into the core Firefly storyline and will be written by Josh Lee Gordon and Francesco Mortarino. Jeanine Schaefer, executive editor of BOOM!, released a statement about Saffron:

“Saffron is one of the most fascinating characters in Firefly. In just a handful of appearances, she rocketed to fan-favorite with the perfect mix of charisma, cunning and controlled chaos that makes us want to know what quickly became clear was unknowable... neither by us, nor by Saffron herself. But what we do know is that she’s not someone to be crossed, and her drive to survive by any means necessary makes her one of those most dangerous characters our crew has encountered.

This is just the beginning of BOOM! Studios’ plans to dig deeper into the untold stories from Firefly that fans have demanded. Saffron has a big role to play in 2019!”

Firefly: Bad Company #1 will be available on March 20, 2019.
