New GODZILLA Movie Announced With GODZILLA: MINUS ONE Director Takashi Yamazaki Returning
The official Godzilla social media accounts have announced that a brand new Godzilla movie has been officially greenlit for production!
Takashi Yamazaki (Godzilla Minus One) will return to write and direct the next Godzilla movie for Toho, and he will also lead the charge on all the VFX as well.
There aren’t a lot of details on the project, but you can watch the official “Emergency Announcement” video below!
This is exciting! I assume this will serve as a sequel to Godzilla: Minus One. Yamazaki previously talked about a sequel saying:
"If I were to direct the next Godzilla movie, I would like to do a sequel to this one. There have been two standalone Godzilla films in a row now, so perhaps the next one will need to feature a villain monster.”
He also explained that he wants to make a Kaiju vs. Kaiju movie that’s actually good, saying: "I don’t know if anyone has achieved a more serious tone of kaiju vs kaiju with human drama, that challenge, is something I would like to explore."
He went on to add, "When you have movies that feature [kaiju battles], I think it's very easy to put the spotlight and the camera on this massive spectacle, and it detaches itself from the human drama component."
He also previously said that he would like to plays with Mechagodzilla and Ghidorah, so we might see them eventually pop up, which would be cool!
