New HARRY POTTER Star Dominic McLaughlin Describes His Reaction to Getting a Letter From Daniel Radcliffe

In the last week or so, two of the original Harry Potter film stars, Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley, and Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry, each spoke out about having sent letters to the new young actors who are taking over their roles for the HBO series adaptation.

Each spoke of passing the baton to the new stars, and their hopes for what a great time these kids will have playing the roles that shaped their young lives.

Actor Dominic McLaughlin, who is playing the new young Harry Potter, recalled on BBC’s Saturday Mash-Up! Live, the unforgettable moment he got his letter from Radcliffe, saying:

“It was insane. My Dad tapped me on the train and just gave me this letter. I read it, and then I got to the bottom, and it said, ‘Dan R.’ I was going mad, but I had to [keep cool]. I was on the train.”

When asked about the new Harry Potter production, McLaughlin reported that filming is progressing. “It’s going amazing, it’s going really well,” he said, adding, “I’ve made good friends with everyone, it’s great to be there.”

The upcoming series also stars Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, as well as Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.

The new series is set to debut on HBO and HBO Max in 2027.
