New Image From Pixar's LUCA Plus Some New Details From the Film's Director
Empire Magazine has released a new image from the upcoming Disney Pixar film Luca, a “mythical coming-of-age adventure” that is set to hit theaters this Summer. The film is “set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera. The original animated feature is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: he is a sea monster from another world just below the water's surface.”
The film was written by Jesse Andrews (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) and Mike Jones (Soul), and is directed by Pixar short La Luna director, Enrico Casarosa, who has worked on Pixar films for years, but is making his feature directorial debut with Luca. Casarosa spoke to Empire about the film and how it parallels his own childhood, saying:
“I was born in Genoa, and my summers were spent on beaches. I met my best friend when I was 11. I was really shy and I found this troublemaker of a kid who had a completely different life. I wanted to make a movie about those kinds of friendships that help you grow up.”
The director said the result ended with a “Pixar film that pays homage to Fellini and other classic Italian filmmakers, with a dash of Miyazaki in the mix too.” I love the beautiful art I have seen from this film so far. I am excited to see this movie, and this picture and description have me looking forward to it even more. Check out the photo below, and watch Luca when it hits theaters on June 18, 2021.
