New Image From THE INCREDIBLES 2 Picks Up Where The First Film Ended and Additional Story Details Revealed
Pixar has released a new photo from director Brad Bird's The Incredibles 2. As you can see it picks up right where the last film ended and where the sequel begins. The Parr family is gathered together striking a heroic pose having just defeated the villain Syndrome.
14 years have passed since The Incredibles was released in theaters, but this sequel picks up right after the events of the first, which I thought was a cool direction to go. While talking to EW, Bird explains:
"Incredibles 2 picks up, literally, where the first film left off, with Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl battling The Underminer, while Violet and Dash are stuck with babysitting Jack-Jack. That’s all we’re saying for now. But rest assured, there are a lot more superheroics in store for our ‘family dynamic.’"
As for the plot of the film, it's said that there's a chain of events in Incredibles 2 that "sends Elastigirl into the center of the action while Mr. Incredible, at home in the family’s sleek new hideout headquarters, must contend with baby Jack-Jack’s burgeoning new powers."
It's pretty cool that Elastigirl is going to get out of the house and embark on her own adventure this time around. Holly Hunter is reprising her role as Elstigirl, and this is what she had to say about her in an interview:
“Helen’s appetite for adventure comes to the fore. Whereas before, she was driven to become Mrs. Incredible out of necessity, where she went into it to save her husband, I think this time she really meets her own ambition head-on. The ambition of being an adventure is something that we get to explore.”
She goes on to say that her new journey is “full-fledged,” and reveals there's “a real incredible sense of competitiveness and ambition. She throws down the gauntlet in this one. It’s so much fun to see a woman luxuriating in those two arenas, because women have for so many generations been brought up to not be ambitious or to not be competitive, and it’s fun to see Helen basking in those two arenas in much the same way that we give men license to do.”
The Incredibles is easily my favorite Pixar film and I'm so excited that we are getting a sequel. I also like the direction they are taking the story and I can't wait to see how it plays out. Craig T. Nelson will be back as Mr. Incredible/Bob, Samuel L. Jackson is back as Frozone/Lucius, and Sarah Vowell will once again provide the voice of Violet.
The Incredibles 2 will be released on June 15, 2018.
