New Info on Kylo Ren in THE FORCE AWAKENS and The First Order's Nazi Inspiration

Kylo Ren is one of the most intriguing characters that we've been introduced to in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. There's just so much mystery and intrigue surrounding the villain. We know that he's part of a group called The Knights of Ren, that he has an obsession with Darth Vader, and also that he has some kind of connection to the original trilogy.

Thanks to Empire, we now have some new information on the character. J.J. Abrams confirmed to them that Kylo Ren is not a Sith. The director said, "He works under Supreme Leader Snoke, who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force.”

For those of you who don't remember, Snoke is a digitally created character who is being played by Andy Serkis. That is the character whose growling voice we hear in the narration of the first teaser trailer.

Abrams also gave some additional information on the state of the galaxy when The Force Awakens starts and offered up some details on the origins of The First Order, who are basically the Nazis. Abrams said,

“That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again?’ What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn’t get done?”

That's a fascinating way to approach the formation of this villainous group. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi and features a new generation of heroes and villains, as well as the return of fan-favorite smugglers, princesses, and Jedi.

The film stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Anderson, Christina Chong, and Miltos Yerolemou.

It will be released in theaters on December 18th, 2015. Make sure to read up on all of our Star Wars: The Force Awakens news here!
