New Info Revealed on Benicio Del Toro's Shady Character in STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI

Up until this point, all that we've known regarding the shady character that Benicio Del Toro is playing in Star Wars: The Last Jedi is that his name is DJ, and the following official description:

“DJ is an enigmatic figure whose tattered, threadbare clothes and lackadaisical attitude conceal a sharp mind and expert skills.”

Now, thanks to John Boyega and EW, we have some additional details to share with you! According to the report, DJ is a part of the mission that Boyega’s Finn and Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose embark on when they head to the wealthy, gambling resort city of Canto Bight. Which you can see in the photo below.

Boyega offers up some details that reveal DJ's expert skill set saying:

“We just need a codebreaker and he’s the best in the galaxy. Unfortunately, he’s very dodgy and only in it for financial gain. He doesn’t fight for any side."

We don't know when the character comes into play, but I imagine they bring him on the team before they head to Canto Bight to help them do whatever they need to do. He seems like the kind of guy that is helping them out for the money since he's not fighting for any side. It's explained that "to him, the heroes and the villains aren’t enemies — they’re opponents."

It's then revealed that a hacker in the Star Wars universe is known as a "slicer", which is a term and kind of character we have rarely seen explored in the Star Wars universe. Boyega goes on to say he's not someone you want to put your trust in:

“He has distinct opinions. The Resistance bombs the First Order one day, the First Order bombs the Resistance on another. It’s an ongoing war that will never end. For him, he’s trying to benefit off of that — which doesn’t make him the person you want to trust.”

Tran went on to talk about Del Toro's performance, saying:

“When I was onset with that character, I felt like there was a tiger in the room, and I always had to be watching. Like an animal, at any moment he could do something, and I didn’t know what.”

I guess that even though we know a little bit more about the character, he sounds like an unpredictable character whose star arc remains a mystery.
