New IT: WELCOME TO DERRY Season 2 Update Is Great News for Horror Fans

HBO’s It: Welcome to Derry has already carved out a place as one of the most talked-about horror series on streaming, and now there’s finally some movement on Season 2.

While the official greenlight hasn’t been publicly announced just yet, the latest update from the creative team makes it clear that Pennywise isn’t done haunting Derry anytime soon.

Fans have been waiting for news ever since the Season 1 finale dropped a few months ago. The silence was a little surprising, especially considering the show pulled in huge numbers and stood alongside heavy hitters like House of the Dragon and The Last of Us in terms of debut success. But according to the people steering the ship, there’s no cause for concern.

Barbara Muschietti, who executive produces the series alongside her brother Andy Muschietti, confirmed that things are moving forward, saying, “Yeah, it is going to be official.”

She also made it clear that the delay has nothing to do with how the show performed. “A lot of times, the announcements are the studio having to declare their confidence for the show. We don’t need that because clearly we’re good.”

Andy Muschietti added a bit more context, pointing toward the business side of things slowing down the announcement. “Sometimes the announcements come a little delayed because of deals and stuff. I don’t want to get too granular about it, but there’s a general intention to make it happen.”

So, it’s happening. It just isn’t stamped with a press release yet.

What makes this even more exciting is where the story is headed next. The series has been digging into the long, terrifying history of Pennywise, and Season 2 will continue that trend by jumping back to 1935. That means a whole new era of nightmares for the cursed town of Derry, Maine.

Andy Muschietti teased one of the major story elements fans can expect: “The Bradley Gang is coming in hot,” referencing the infamous Bradley Gang massacre pulled straight from Stephen King’s lore.

Barbara Muschietti also hinted that the next chapter will expand the world even more with new faces and some unexpected flair. “a lot more fantastic characters. It’s a lot of fun […] There are hats! [Laughs].”

Between the deeper dive into Pennywise’s past and the introduction of new characters tied to Derry’s dark history, Season 2 sounds like it’s going bigger in all the right ways.

At this point, it feels like we’re just waiting on HBO to make things official. Given how well It: Welcome to Derry performed out of the gate, that announcement probably isn’t too far off.

Until then, horror fans can relax knowing that the nightmare is far from over. Pennywise always comes back, and it looks like he’s bringing even more chaos with him next time.
