New James Bond Doc Tells the Crazy Story of One-Time 007 George Lazenby, Who Had it All and Gave it Up
Hulu has released the first trailer for an original documentary called Becoming Bond. It tells the crazy and fascinating story of George Lazenby, the actor who replaced Sean Connery in the role of James Bond for only one film after Connery ended his run. That film was On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, which is one of the best films in the franchise.
What makes this story so interesting is the fact that Lazenby had no acting experience prior to landing the role. He was Australian car salesman, who managed to lie his way into the role and a six movie deal with a $1 million bonus that he ended up turning down. That's just crazy to me, but his whole story will be laid out in this documentary, which might bend the truth a little bit.
The movie combines interviews with Lazenby along with reenactments of his story being played out with actors that include Jake Johnson and Jeff Garlin. The movie looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. Here's the synopsis:
A unique documentary/narrative hybrid chronicling the stranger-than-fiction true story of George Lazenby, a poor Australian car mechanic who, through an unbelievable set of circumstances, landed the role of James Bond in “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” (1969), despite having never acted a day in his life. Then after being offered the next six Bond films and a $1 million signing bonus, he turned it all down…
This film looks like it will be a real treat for James Bond fans. It's set to be released on Hulu on May 10th.
