New JAMES BOND Movie Is “Moving Along Quite Nicely,” Says Screenwriter Steven Knight

Amazon’s next chapter in the James Bond saga is still shrouded in secrecy, but things are clearly picking up momentum. Fans have been eager for any kind of update on the future of 007, and now screenwriter Steven Knight has offered a small but encouraging tease about how development is going.

Knight recently shared a quick status update while speaking with Variety, and while he’s keeping plot details locked tighter than a MI6 vault, his excitement for the project comes through loud and clear.

He said, "I mean, I can’t give any details, obviously, but I’m loving it. It’s so much fun," which is exactly the kind of energy you want from the person shaping Bond’s next mission.

When pressed about when fans might hear more, he added, "Depends on what you mean by 'soon,' but yeah. I mean, things are moving along quite nicely."

That’s a reassuring sign, especially considering the turbulence the franchise went through recently. Last year sparked a lot of debate when longtime Bond stewards Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli handed over creative control to Amazon in a deal reportedly worth around $20 million.

Fans were understandably concerned about what this shift might mean for the future of the iconic spy. Things started to feel a lot more promising when it was announced that Denis Villeneuve, the visionary filmmaker behind Dune, would take the director’s chair.

Pair that with producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, and suddenly the project has some serious cinematic firepower behind it.

Of course, the biggest mystery still hanging over the franchise is the identity of the next James Bond. For a while, Aaron Taylor-Johnson seemed like the frontrunner, or at least high on the list. More recent reports suggest Amazon may be aiming younger, with names like Callum Turner and Jacob Elordi being floated around.

Whoever lands the role will be stepping into one of the most iconic characters in film history, and it sounds like Amazon is taking its time getting it right.

Right now, the untitled James Bond movie is targeting a 2028 release, which gives the creative team plenty of runway to build something fresh while still honoring what makes Bond… Bond.
