New James Bond Movie Script Is Done as Steven Knight Teases the Next 007
Everyone wants to know who will be the next James Bond, but while fans obsess over the casting of 007, another major piece of the new movie has fallen into place. Steven Knight has finished the first draft of the script for the next James Bond movie.
Knight confirmed the news during an appearance on Zoe Ball’s U.K. Greatest Hits Radio show. When asked if he had completed a draft, the screenwriter offered a very Bond-like response: “I’m nodding silently.”
Knight is certainly an interesting writer to hand the keys to Bond. He created Peaky Blinders, A Thousand Blows and House of Guinness. Taking on 007, though, means something different to him.
Knight described writing the film as “more than bucket list,” saying he felt he was “doing my duty for King and country by taking this thing on.”
He’s also sounding extremely confident about what he’s cooking up for Bond. He said: “I’m absolutely loving doing it. It’s an honor to be asked. And believe it’s going to be so good. I really do believe it’s going to be amazing.”
The movie will be the 26th installment in the Bond franchise and will launch a new era for the character following Daniel Craig’s run as 007.
Denis Villeneuve is directing the reboot for Amazon MGM Studios, which already makes this one of the most intriguing Bond projects we’ve seen in a long time. Of course, the big question hanging over the movie is who Villeneuve and the studio have chosen to wear the tuxedo.
Knight may already know. Knight was asked whether he wrote the screenplay with the new Bond actor in mind or whether he approached it primarily from his understanding of the character. “It’s a bit of both.”
Knight followed that up with a particularly interesting explanation: “It does make life a little bit easier if you know who that person is, but also you have to write the character, not the actor.”
That certainly sounds like the identity of the next 007 could already be known to the people making the movie, even if the rest of us are still waiting.
Slow Horses actor Jack Lowden is the guy everyone seems to think it will be. Whether Lowden is actually the guy remains to be seen, but the pieces of the new Bond era are coming together.
