New JUMANJI: OPEN WORLD Trailer Brings the Game Into the Real World for One Final Adventure
The game is breaking out into the real world, and things are about to get completely out of control! Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Jumanji: Open World, bringing Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan back together for one final round of jungle-fueled chaos.
The new trailer dropped with Sony teasing, “Our world. New rules. One final game.” The upcoming film marks the fifth installment in the Jumanji franchise and serves as the conclusion to the modern reboot trilogy.
This time, the adventure isn't confined to a video game. The trailer kicks off around Christmas as the world of Jumanji begins spilling into reality, turning familiar surroundings into a dangerous playground.
Then at one point, Spencer and his mother are pulled into the game, but there's a pretty funny switch in characters. Spencer's mom ends up taking on the role of Dr. Smolder Bravestone, while Spencer finds himself playing Ruby Roundhouse.
Naturally, that opens the door for plenty of ridiculous situations, especially with Johnson's musclebound adventurer being controlled by someone's mom.
The trailer delivers the action and comedy fans have come to expect from the franchise, but in this story, whatever happens inside Jumanji now threatens the real world, and losing could mean the end of everything.
Ruby makes thatclear when she warns, “From here the game only gets harder; we have to be ready for whatever is coming next. If we lose in here, there won’t be a home to go back to. No reset. No second chance.”
Sony's official synopsis offers a little more insight into the adventure: “This Christmas, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan are reunited in Jumanji: Open World, the hilarious final installment of the globally beloved action-adventure trilogy. Our heroes have escaped the perilous jungles of Jumanji before, but this time Jumanji breaks free of its console, unleashing its chaos into our world.”
Jake Kasdan returns to direct the movie and developed the story alongside Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. Johnson reprises his role as Dr. Smolder Bravestone, with Black returning as Professor Shelly Oberon, Hart as Franklin Mouse Finbar, Gillan as Ruby Roundhouse, and Awkwafina as Ming Fleefoot.
The film also brings back Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain, Nick Jonas, and Danny DeVito. Joining the franchise for the first time are Lamorne Morris, Britanny O’Grady, Burn Gorman, and Nasim Pedrad.
Bringing Jumanji into the real world is a fun way to shake things up for the final film and it what the original film actually explored . After watching these characters fight their way through deadly jungles and ridiculous video game challenges, it'll be fun to see what happens when the game's madness starts invading their everyday lives.
Jumanji: Open World hits theaters on December 25, 2026.
