New KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON Video Focuses on Leonardo DiCaprio's Character
Paramount Pictures has released a new promo video for Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. This video offers insight into Leonardo DiCaprio’s character in the story, Ernest Burkhart, who’s directed by his uncle, played by Robert De Niro, to marry Lily Gladstone’s Mollie Kyle as a way to get a hold of her family’s wealth.
The video includes interviews with the cast and crew, and DiCaprio says that his character is a “representation of the incredible greed of that time.” It also features new footage from the film showcasing the terrible things Ernest is willing to do for money. As you might imagine, this isn’t going to have a good outcome.
The film is based on David Grann’s book, “Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI,” and the story is set in 1920s Oklahoma. It depicts the serial murders of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation, a string of brutal crimes that came to be known as the Reign of Terror. Here’s a description of the story:
At the end of the nineteenth century, the Osage Indians were driven onto a presumed worthless expanse of land in northeastern Oklahoma. But their territory turned out to be atop one of the largest oil deposits in the United States; to obtain that oil, prospectors were required to pay the tribe for leases and royalties. By the 1920s, the members of Osage Nation had become the wealthiest people per capita in the world. And then the Osage began to die under mysterious circumstances.
DiCaprio stars in the film as Ernest Burkhart, and Gladstone stars as Mollie Burkhart, an Osage married to Ernest, who is the nephew of a powerful local rancher, played by De Niro. Brendan Fraser (The Mummy) and Jesse Plemons (Antlers) also star in the movie.
