New LANTERNS Poster Reveals "Only One Can Wear the Ring"

DC Studios and HBO have released a new poster for Lanterns, and this one actually leans into the green. After the recent teaser for Clayface stirred conversation, this latest reveal for Lanterns shifts the spotlight back to one of DC’s most anticipated series and gives fans a little more to chew on.

The early Lanterns trailer caught some heat for feeling a little too stripped down visually. Even legendary comic writer Grant Morrison chimed in, calling out Damon Lindelof for his “jockish dismissal” of the “Green” in Green Lantern. That tension didn’t stick around long, but fans still wanted to see more of that signature energy brought to life.

This new poster seems like a direct response. The color is there, even if it’s more subdued than the neon glow some expected. It’s a grounded aesthetic, which lines up with everything we’ve heard about the show so far.

Lanterns isn’t going full cosmic spectacle right out of the gate. Instead, it’s playing things closer to the ground with a mystery-driven story.

At the center of it all are Hal Jordan and John Stewart, two Green Lanterns who, in this version of the DCU, are basically intergalactic cops pulled into a murder case in America’s heartland.

The tone has been compared to True Detective, and that vibe seems to carry through here. It’s less about massive space battles and more about unraveling something dark and potentially much bigger than it first appears.

And then there’s the detail that’s got fans speculating. Right in the middle of the ring featured on the poster is a strange circular symbol. Some are already connecting it to The Centre, a powerful entity that could end up playing a major role across the DCU.

The show comes from Chris Mundy, best known for True Detective: Night Country, alongside Lindelof and comic writer Tom King. That creative lineup alone suggests something character-focused with a slow-burn edge.

On the cast side, Kyle Chandler steps into the role of Hal Jordan, with Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. Chandler recently shared how much he enjoyed working on the series, saying:

"I've not had so much fun shooting something as I did that. The people on it were absolutely wonderful, from the top to the bottom. I can't say enough about Chris Mundy and the producers and the DC folks."

"It was an excellent experience, and I expect the show to be as good as the experience I had [making it]," he continued. "Aaron Pierre, I worked with him, and we had a great time. And Kelly Macdonald, it was just fantastic."

The cast also includes Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Nicole Ari Parker, Jason Ritter, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Jasmine Cephas Jones.

There’s still one thing fans are waiting on though. Seeing Hal and John actually use their rings to create those wild, comic-style constructs. That’s the moment that’ll probably win over anyone still on the fence.

Lanterns is set to premiere on HBO this August.
