New Line Cinema is Developing a Creepy Horror Film about an Evil Child Ghost Called DEAR DAVID
Hollywood loves its horror films and New Line Cinema won a bidding war for a new one called Dear David. The movie is based on an online ghost story from former BuzzFeed writer Adam Ellis and IT producer Dan Lin has jumped on board to help develop the film.
Dear David started out as a little online story started by Ellis with the following tweet:
So, my apartment is currently being haunted by the ghost of a dead child and he's trying to kill me. (thread)

Months later he posted the following image providing proof of the haunting.

According to Collider, Dear David is being developed as a “high-concept horror thriller about a Ellis’ experience in his apartment “being haunted by the ghost of a dead child who is trying to kill him.” Ellis has maintained that his story is true, and the haunting was real.
I’m not buying this as a true story, but it really is a great viral campaign that helped land Ellis a movie deal! Ellis ended up getting more than 1 million Twitter followers who were fascinated by his ghost story.
New Line is the perfect home for a ghost story like this and the script is being written by Mike Van Waes (The Crooked Man).
What do you think of this ghost story film concept and the way it was conceived?
