New Line of STAR WARS Books and Comics Will Focus on the 'High Republic' Era; Watch the Announcement Trailer

A couple of months ago it was reported that Lucasfilm was developing a series of films that would be set during the “High Republic” era. We initially thought that this era was set 400 years before the events of the beginning of the Skywalker saga.

For months Lucasfilm has been teasing something called Project Luminous. Well, we now know what that is. Tonya Agurto, SVP of Disney Publishing Worldwide, confirmed that Lucasfilm will be created a line of books and comics set during the High Republic, which he clarifies is set 200 years before the events of the Skywalker Saga, which is a time in the Star Wars universe that has not been explored.

Lucasfilm Publishing creative director Michael Siglain went on to explain that this was "a golden time. A time of peace and prosperity. A time when the Jedi really are galactic guardians, stewards of peace and justice." The initiative was also described as the "Jedi Knights of the Round Table" at a time featuring "space Vikings.”

So, I guess these books and comics will help build up this era in the Star Wars universe so that fans can familiarize themselves with it before the next line of movies come out, if that is actually the era Lucasfilm is going to explore in their next series of films.

The writers involved with these upcoming projects include Cavan Scott (Star Wars Adventures), Claudia Gray (Star Wars: Master & Apprentice), Charles Soule Star Wars: Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith), Daniel José Older (Star Wars: Last Shot), and Justina Ireland (Star Wars: Lando’s Luck).

I’m curious to see what kinds of stories end up coming from this new series of stories. Watch an announcement trailer for this next wave of Star Wars stories below. You can all see the first wave of comics and books that have been announced.
