New Luke Skywalker Image From THE LAST JEDI and Director Rian Johnson Talks About Luke's Exile
Can you believe that in less than two months we will have already seen Lucasfilm's highly anticipated Star Wars: The Last Jedi? Now director Rian Johnson is speaking more about Luke Skywalker’s self-imposed exile.
During an interview with USA Today, Johnson recently joked about why Skywalker exiled himself and remained on Ahch-To for so long:
“So when you see it in totality you’re like, ‘Oh, OK, this is why the galaxy’s greatest optimist and hero would be doing this.’ ”
So it seems that The Last Jedi will explain Skywalker’s absence from Episode VII, after all, something fans have been wondering since the opening crawl of The Force Awakens. Johnson then went on to explain how Luke's years spent alone on a secluded island affected the Jedi:
“(Hamill’s) always been handsome and he’s just in this place now where he’s got so much gravity: You point a camera at his face and you feel depth and wisdom. He’s seen some stuff.”
USA Today also revealed a new image (above) from the movie featuring Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker standing in front of what looks like the Journal of the Whills.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters December 15, 2017.
