New MARVEL’S WOLVERINE Trailer Unleashes Logan’s Savage Bloody Side in Awesome Gameplay Reveal
After years of anticipation, Insomniac Games has finally given fans a much better look at Marvel’s Wolverine, and it looks exactly like the kind of brutal mutant adventure fans were hoping for.
During Sony’s recent State of Play presentation, the studio pulled back the curtain on the PlayStation 5 exclusive with an extended gameplay reveal that showcased Logan in action, savagly slicing through enemies, hunting down answers about his past, and protecting fellow mutants along the way.
Like Insomniac’s highly successful Spider-Man games, Marvel’s Wolverine is an action-adventure experience. This time, however, players are stepping into the boots of Logan as he travels across the globe while trying to piece together the mysteries surrounding his history.
Along the way, he also finds himself helping vulnerable mutants in a world where the X-Men largely remain out of the spotlight, allowing them to move around without attracting too much attention.
A key part of the story revolves around Team X, a mutant group dedicated to protecting their own. Logan previously walked away from the team years ago, but the game begins with him rejoining the organization, setting the stage for what looks like a dangerous, bloody, and emotional journey.
The gameplay footage offered a great look at Wolverine’s combat, which embraces both his savage nature and his stealthier instincts. Players can charge directly into battle, carving through the cybernetic Reavers with Logan’s adamantium claws, or quietly eliminate enemies through stealth takedowns. His current mission centers on rescuing kidnapped mutants, and he isn’t tackling it alone.
One of the biggest highlights from the reveal is the appearance of Jean Grey, the leader of Team X. Using her powerful telekinetic abilities, she joins Logan in combat, and the two even team up for a slick coordinated takedown that will undoubtedly have X-Men fans grinning from ear to ear.
The trailer also featured a high-speed motorcycle sequence before Wolverine leaps onto a moving convoy, tearing through more Reavers. Players will be able to chain together acrobatic attacks, jump between vehicles, and unleash special abilities as the chaos unfolds around them.
Despite his incredible healing factor, Logan can still be overwhelmed in battle. The gameplay showed that players can recover from critical situations through quick button-mashing sequences, allowing Wolverine to regenerate and get right back into the fight.
As exciting as the gameplay looks, longtime Marvel fans will probably be just as interested in the roster of characters appearing throughout the story.
Several familiar faces from X-Men lore are set to make appearances, including Omega Red, Mystique, and Logan’s longtime rival Sabretooth. There’s also a mysterious enemy who strongly resembles Deadpool, adding another intriguing wrinkle to the narrative.
And because no Wolverine story is complete without impossible odds, players will also come face-to-face with giant Sentinels. In fact, there appear to be several of them waiting to make Logan’s life even more complicated.
Based on what Insomniac showed during State of Play, Marvel’s Wolverine looks like it’s delivering an intense mix of fast-paced combat, mutant mythology, and cinematic storytelling. If this gameplay reveal is any indication, Logan’s first solo outing from the studio could end up being one of PlayStation 5’s biggest releases of the year.
Marvel’s Wolverine claws its way onto PlayStation 5 on September 15.
