New MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Clip Unleashes He-Man’s Sky Sled in Live-Action
The upcoming Masters of the Universe movie keeps looking more and more like the adaptation longtime fans have been hoping for. A newly released clip from the film has revealed the best live-action look yet at one of the franchise’s most recognizable vehicles, the Sky Sled, and it looks awesome.
Since Mattel launched the Masters of the Universe toy line in 1982, the franchise has remained one of the defining fantasy properties of the decade. The toys exploded in popularity and quickly led to the classic He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series, which ran for 130 episodes from 1983 to 1985.
Then came the 1987 live-action movie starring Dolph Lundgren, which earned a loyal cult following over the years even if it never fully captured the weird cosmic fantasy energy that made Eternia such a massive hit in the first place.
Now, Amazon MGM Studios is taking another swing at bringing Eternia to the big screen with director Travis Knight’s new big-budget adaptation, and everything we’ve seen so far points to a movie that’s embracing the franchise’s mythology, characters, and gloriously bizarre toy-inspired world.
The latest footage centers on a classic piece of Masters of the Universe history. As Skeletor’s forces attack a ship carrying Prince Adam and his allies, Teela, played by Camila Mendes, tells Adam, played by Nicholas Galitzine, to head to the hangar. That’s where he discovers the legendary Sky Sled.
The clip shows Adam struggling to get control of the vehicle at first before finally blasting off toward battle to confront Skeletor’s minions.
For fans of the original toy line, this is a pretty fun moment. The Sky Sled debuted in the very first wave of Masters of the Universe toys back in 1982 as part of the Battle Ram vehicle set.
It later became a recurring staple in the Filmation cartoon and one of the signature pieces of tech used by the Heroic Warriors. Seeing it faithfully recreated in live-action is another sign that Knight and his team are pulling heavily from the franchise’s classic roots.
The movie is also going all in when it comes to fan-favorite characters and toy accuracy, which is what makes this movie so exciting. All of the characters look exactly like how they looked in the cartoon!
At this point, Masters of the Universe is shaping up to be the kind of adaptation fans have been waiting decades to see. It looks weird, colorful, faithful to the toys, and completely unafraid to embrace the franchise’s larger-than-life fantasy insanity.
