New OBI-WAN KENOBI Photos and Ewan McGregor Says Darth Vader "Scared the Sh**" Out of Him
Thanks to Total Film, we have three new photos to share with you from Lucasfilm’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series. The features a couple of new shots of Ewan McGregor back in the role of Kenobi. One photo features the character on Tatooine and the other features him walking around in the Coruscant underworld.
The other photo offers a new look at Rupert Friend as the Grand Inquisitor, who is on a mission to hunt down and kill Jedi. Some fans don’t like the character’s look in the series, but I’m not complaining. The series looks like it’s going to be great!
The story is set 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.
Speaking of Darth Vader, McGregor shares his experience of shooting a scene with the Sith Lord and how Vader scared the shit out of him. In an interview with Total Film he said:
"I’ve never met Darth Vader. I had rehearsed the scene with Vader, but not with the helmet on or anything like that. When we came to do the scene, when they shouted 'action', he had to come from behind me. I turned around, and fucking Darth Vader was coming at me. It was like I was six again. I’d never acted into Vader’s helmet. I’d never looked him in the eye.
"It scared the shit out of me. I’m not joking. It gave me a proper jolt of absolute fear. I was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s not acting. That’s real. I’m really, truly frightened right now.’ And the same thing would happen with the Stormtroopers. I’d worked with Clone troopers before, but so many of them were CGI. I never worked with Stormtroopers, and, again, I was like seven years old again. Because when you’re actually faced with a Stormtrooper, with a blaster, it’s like: ‘Fucking hell.’
"It’s like actual childhood memories of being scared. That’s how deeply it’s in us. I’ve acted for 30 years, and I’ve never been genuinely frightened when I’m acting frightened... But I had moments on this that were genuinely quite scary. It’s so funny.”
That’s freakin’ awesome! It’s going to be such an awesome thing to see these two characters come face to face again after all these years and engage in a lightsaber battle! Director Deborah Chow also shared her thoughts on Vader while shooting the series saying:
"There was a moment of silence, collectively, when he first came onto set. Just having Vader standing in front of you is a crazy thing. It’s an amazing thing, but it’s very intense when you first start doing it."
Hayden Christensen is back as Vader, and the series also stars Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.
Obi-Wan Kenobi will drop on Disney+ on May 25th!
