New Photo From HELLBOY Features Big Red, Major Ben Daimio, and Alice Monaghan

While we wait for the trailer for director Neil Marshall’s Hellboy reboot to drop soon, we have a new photo to share with you thanks to EW.

This photo features three of the stories principal characters, including Hellboy (David Harbour) and his fellow BPRD Agents, Major Ben Daimio (Daniel Dae Kim) and Alice Monaghan (Sasha Lane), “who retains a connection to the magical world after being kidnapped by fairies as a child.”

When talking about the film in an interview with EW, Harbour explains where the film picks up in Hellboy’s life:

“It’s not an origin story, but it’s his coming to terms with where he came from,” says Harbour. He’s been Hellboy for a long time, but there’s a new turn of events at the start of the film, where people start to bring up the fact that he might bring about the end of the world, and it’s really the first time he’s heard anything like that. The question that comes up in the movie is where does he really belong?”

It’s also explained that the relationships between Hellboy and the BPRD agents aren’t all sunshine and rainbows. Those relationships are pretty rocky. Kim explains:

“He’s definitely got a point of view about Hellboy. Just because they all exist in this universe doesn’t make them all friends. There are suspicions and rivalries. As far as how he holds his own, let’s just say Daimio has a few tricks up his sleeve.”

Of course, they are all going to have to come together, put aside their differences, and trust each other if they are going to defeat Nimue the Blood Queen, who is played by Milla Jovovich. Nimue is “a powerful witch who’s angry about what humans have done to her kind,” and she is going to try to get Hellboy to join her in her quest of revenge. When talking about the villain, Harbour says:

“We really three-dimensionalized her in the movie. She was brought up in a culture that treated her kind a certain way, and it wasn’t always deserving. That’s the point that becomes compelling to Hellboy and spins his head around.”

The Hellboy reboot also stars Ian McShane as Professor Broom and Penelope Mitchell as Ganeida, a witch who has decided that the Blood Queen's wrath has gone on for too long. Then there’s Thomas Haden Church, who is playing Lobster Johnson.

Based on the graphic novels by Mike Mignola, Hellboy, caught between the worlds of the supernatural and human, battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge.
