New Photo From SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME Features Mysterio Who is Described as "The Cool Uncle"

We’ve got a new image to share with you today from Marvel’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. The new photo features Spider-Man (Tom Holland) with Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) and this might just be our best look at his costume yet.

While talking to EW, Director Jon Watts talked about the powerful magician Mysterio, saying, “If Tony Stark was sort of the mentor in the previous films, we thought it would be interesting to play Mysterio as almost like the cool uncle.” That’s certainly an interesting way to play with the character and his relationship with Peter. Watts went on to talk about the story, saying:

“Peter’s ready for a vacation at the beginning of this movie, to say the least. This film is about the world telling him, ‘It’s time for you to step up and grow up, kid,’ and he’s saying, ‘But I still want to be a kid and go on vacation.’”

Of course, Peter’s vacation is interrupted by some attacks from a group of villains called The Elementals. So, the hero is recruited by Nick Fury to team up with Mysterio to battle and take down the fire, water, and sand villains.

Watts went on to tease that the movie seems more like a spy thriller than a teen adventure movie, saying:

“We were doing a bunch of shots that looked like they were out of The Bourne Identity or some exciting European action-travel movie.”

In fact, Watts had one of the little recorders with him and every time they finished a take, the director would blast the opening notes of Moby’s “Extreme Ways”, which was the theme song to all five Bourne films. Tom Holland then joked that the Spider-Bourne has a nice ring to it.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is said to be the movie that closes out Marvel’s Phase 3. Not sure why because Avengers: Endgame was the perfect close out movie.

The movie hits theaters on July 5th.
