New Photo Sneaks a Peek at Dwayne Johnson Behind the Scenes of Disney's Live-Action MOANA

Disney has a lot going on just within the world of Moana. The first film came out in 2016 to a huge response from fans. The story and music were so incredibly good, it felt like a real revival for Disney princesses alongside other huge hits around the same time like Frozen.

Then we were supposed to get a sequel series at Disney+, but when the footage for the show was unveiled for Disney execs, it got fast tracked into a full animated sequel that is headed to theaters next week.

All the while, the studio couldn’t miss the chance to make the animated hit into a live-action feature for whatever reason, so we are also getting a live-action Moana, slated to hit the big screen in 2026. I love the Moana franchise, and I am excited to see Moana 2.

I also would be willing to bet that the live-action film will be lovely and well-done as well, I just wish we were getting double the original content from Disney instead of the same films we’ve already seen, again in live-action.

But nobody asked me! So, they have already begun production on the live-action film, which will feature Dwayne Johnson as the only actor that we known of who will take on the live-action role from the original voice cast.

We have a first-look photo of the actor from behind-the-scenes of the film looking pretty much how you’d imagine.

Not quite as exaggerated as the cartoon version, for obvious reasons, but the closest you can probably get, considering he is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. So check it out below, and watch the live-action Moana in theaters on July 10, 2026.
