New Photos and Character Details For Rian Johnson's GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY
We’ve got a few new photos to share with you for director Rian Johnson‘s upcoming murder-mystery film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. We also have some details regarding the characters that we will be introduced to in the Knives Out sequel thanks to Empire.
In Glass Onion, “Detective Benoit Blanc travels to Greece to peel back the layers of a mystery involving a new cast of colorful suspects.” It’s also been explained that the movie will peel back some of the layers on Blanc himself.
Daniel Craig is back in the role of Benoit Blanc in the sequel, and the rest of the cast includes Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Jessica Henwick, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Janelle Monáe, Madelyn Cline, and Kate Hudson.
They play a “group of old acquaintances summoned to Greece by a rich friend for a murder-mystery game that gets a little too real.”
The first image features Leslie Odom Jr. as Lionel Toussaint, Kathryn Hahn as Claire Debella (a Connecticut governor running for Senate), and Kate Hudson as fashionista Birdie Jay. Odom Jr. shared some insight, saying:
“I imagine that as complicated as these relationships are, these people have history, so what keeps them coming back together? I thought a lot about the original spark of what brought them together when they were younger. There must be something in it that is joyful. As fraught as we arrive on that island in Greece at the start of this film, that’s now where we began. Love is complicated, friendships can be complicated.”
Odom Jr.’s Toussaint is a scientist who works for Edward Norton’s character, Miles Bron, who is a tech disruptor. He is shown in a photo with Dave Bautista, who plays YouTube star Duke Cody, who’s “attending the party with his younger girlfriend and channel assistant Whiskey, played by Madelyn Cline.”
When talking about the character Miles, Johnson said: “The species that [Miles] is derived from will be instantly recognizable to a lot of people in our era of tech billionaires.”
As for some of the other characters, Jessica Henwick plays Birdie’s assistant Peg, and Janelle Monáe plays tech entrepreneur Cassandra ‘Andi’ Brand. They can be seen in another photo getting confrontational with Claire.
Johnson says Claire “pisses everyone off, and is trying to thread the needle in many different ways, in terms of her public persona and what she’s willing to compromise in order to stay in office.”
When talking about the story layers of Glass Onion, the director said: “The movie itself is not entirely about the income divide, but that definitely has a huge place in it. We’re in a moment in history where the divide feels increasingly obscene. Like a circus that we can’t keep our eyes off even as the negative effects of it become more and more real in all our lives.”
I enjoyed the first film, and I’m looking forward to seeing how this new whodunit murder mystery plays out.
