New Photos For DC's JOKER and Todd Phillips Talks About Taking Cues From the THE HANGOVER Films
Thanks to Total Film, we have some new photos to share with you from DC’s upcoming Joker movie. Those images feature’s Joaquin Phoenix in the role of the troubled and disturbed character along with Zazie Beetz as Sophia. I also included a couple of magazine covers.
When talking about the film, director Todd Phillips talked about taking cues from the The Hangover films as he developed Joker, saying that those comedy films are “dark as shit.”
“I always think that the Hangover movies are as dark as shit. Everybody always attacks me for the Hangover movies, saying they’re nihilistic. And I’m like, ‘What do you mean? That’s what makes it funny. Nastiness is funny, if you say it right.’”
Yeah, I can see what he’s saying here in regards to those films. I’ve been hearing such great things about Joker. Apparently this movie is so good it could end up being nominated for all kinds of awards. I seriously hope that it’s as good as I’ve been hearing!
Joker centers around the iconic arch-nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. The exploration of Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.
The film also stars Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, and Marc Maron.
Joker will be released in theaters on October 4th, 2019.
