New Photos From HALLOWEEN ENDS; Jamie Lee Curtis and Director Talk About Bringing the Franchise to an End
Director David Gordon Green is going to bring John Carpenter’s Halloween horror franchise to an end with the upcoming film Halloween Ends, and I have no idea what to expect. All we’ve seen from the film so far is Laurie Strode and Michael Meyers in a brutal fight.
We now have some new information on the series along with some new photos to share featuring Laurie and Micheal. When talking about Laurie Strode in the film and where she’s at in her life, Jamie Lee Curtis said:
"By the time you meet Laurie Strode, she has gotten help. Help to process the level of violence that has been perpetrated against her and her family. She’s done the work. And there’s a moment at the beginning of the movie where you actually meet Laurie – I’m not going to say she’s as innocent as she was back when she was a 17-year-old girl – but she has a layer of hope about her. That’s a beautiful place to start a really tragic, incredibly violent ending.”
It’s explained that Laurie and her granddaughter Allyson are living together and according to actress Andi Matichak they "have a good relationship" after dealing with their "shared trauma and loss together.” As for where Micheal has been during this time jump, Green says:
"We don’t really explain that. It’s like: I don’t want to see where Jaws goes to sleep at night when I’m watching a shark movie. I want to see him when he pops up, and he’s got an appetite!"
I like that approach! There’s so much mystery behind Michael Meyers, I’m perfectly fine with not running that. When talking about bringing the franchise to an end, Green says:
"It’s really exciting [to be ending things]. Fuck yeah! And it’s nerve-racking. I’ve moved around the last few scenes of the movie in various orders, and I’ve been playing with music. How do I want to feel [when] I walk out of the theatre, thinking that there’s not going to be another one next year? So that’s the sculpture."
He went on to explain what he wants audiences to experience from the film, saying: "This one is a good time at the movies. Let’s have a blast, ride the roller coaster with a few unexpected turns, and walk away feeling complete. That’s what I want."
Curtis added: "I recently saw a photograph of Laurie from 1978 that Kim Gottlieb, who was our stills photographer, shot. And it moves me to see me then, to be honest. In the same way that Laurie doesn’t understand why all this is happening, I don’t understand why all this is happening to me. Why did I get that moment back in 1978? What made John and Debra [Hill] think I should be Laurie?
She added: "They saw something that I don’t think I even saw. That was John and Debra’s great skill – creating that character in a town that is like every other town in the United States who then comes into contact with the epitome of evil. And 44 years later, we’re still interested in that confluence of those two things. That’s why, at the end of the day, Halloween stands above all others."
Here’s the full synopsis:
After 45 years, the most acclaimed, revered horror franchise in film history reaches its epic, terrifying conclusion as Laurie Strode faces off for the last time against the embodiment of evil, Michael Myers, in a final confrontation unlike any captured on-screen before. Only one of them will survive.
Icon Jamie Lee Curtis returns for the last time as Laurie Strode, horror’s first “final girl” and the role that launched Curtis’ career. Curtis has portrayed Laurie for more than four decades now, one of the longest actor-character pairings in cinema history. When the franchise relaunched in 2018, Halloween shattered box office records, becoming the franchise’s highest-grossing chapter and set a new record for the biggest opening weekend for a horror film starring a woman.
Four years after the events of last year’s Halloween Kills, Laurie is living with her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) and is finishing writing her memoir. Michael Myers hasn’t been seen since. Laurie, after allowing the specter of Michael to determine and drive her reality for decades, has decided to liberate herself from fear and rage and embrace life. But when a young man, Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell; The Hardy Boys, Virgin River), is accused of killing a boy he was babysitting, it ignites a cascade of violence and terror that will force Laurie to finally confront the evil she can’t control, once and for all.
Halloween Ends co-stars returning cast Will Patton as Officer Frank Hawkins, Kyle Richards as Lindsey Wallace and James Jude Courtney as The Shape.
The movie hits theaters on October 14th, 2022. Enjoy the teaser!
