New Plot Details and Style Info Revealed For SILVER & BLACK and VENOM Movie

Superhero movies have become so popular nowadays that they are starting to become sub-genres of them. Ant-Man was a superhero movie, but it was also a heist movie. Spider-Man: Homecoming was a superhero movie, but it was a coming of age high school movie as well. Sony is now looking to focus on particular elements as well with their upcoming Marvel properties, and it could be a good direction for them.

Directors Gina Prince-Bythewood and Ruben Fleischer have recently talked to the media confirming the style and plot elements they want to share in their films. Gina Prince-Bythewood, director of Silver and Black, mentioned recently that they want to focus on being a buddy film akin to Thelma and Louise and Midnight Run.

"I wanted to tell the story of two damaged women who are at war with each other but need each other to survive."

That definitely sounds like an interesting take for a superhero type of movie. It should be interesting to note that technically, Black Cat and Silver Sable have never been major heroes. And both have played the villain role to Spider-Man more than once. Currently, in fact, Black Cat is a major villainous role in the comics, while Silver Sable is acting as revolutionary.

I think it will be an interesting story to tell. The same can also be said about the new Venom movie directed by Ruben Fleischer. He has an idea to focus more on the Horror elements of his movie.

"I've always been drawn to the more antihero superheroes. There's always a dark element to [Venom] and a wit that has always appealed to me."

He goes on to talk about how the film will focus on the relationship of the symbiote and Eddie Brock. And what they become when together. His inspiration comes from great horror filmmakers like John Carpenter and David Cronenberg. These guys are masters at making terrifyingly hideous monsters, so I can't wait to see what sort of creation Fleischer is able to make with Venom.

I still have a lot of doubts about Sony altogether with their Marvel film franchises, but they might be able to make something great if they just do their own thing and not focus on trying to copy every other superhero trend. I think a perfect example is Blade. While maybe not the best Marvel movie, it did its own thing that no one else was really doing, and it did a decent job at doing it. There is definitely an available space for anti-hero films right now. The MCU heroes are all pretty straight laced, and Deadpool seems to be focused on the goofy side of anti-hero. Having some dark heroes from the Spider-Man world could be a good choice for Sony. Only time will tell.
