A new promo image has surfaced from director Josh Boone's X-Men spinoff film The New Mutants and it features our first look at the young mutants all gathered together. The photo includes Blu Hunt as Mirage; Charlie Heaton as Cannonball; Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane; Henry Zaga as Sunspot; and Anya Taylor-Joy as Magic, who has a dragon puppet. This could be a nod to Lockheed the dragon.
The movie looks like it could turn out great. I liked the first trailer and it's cool that Boone is looking to turn this corner of the X-Men universe into a horror franchise. This is just the first of a trilogy of New Mutant films that will be horror themed. It was previously explained that each film will explore a different aspect of the horror movie genre.
“We brought it to FOX as a trilogy of films, really all based on that long run by Sienkiewicz, and kind of incorporates some stuff from later issues in the ‘80s. These are all going to be horror movies, and they'll all be their own distinct kind of horror movies. This is certainly the ‘rubber-reality’ supernatural horror movie. The next one will be a completely different kind of horror movie.”
I'm a big fan of this concept and I really hope that Boone and his team can effectively pull off what they are trying to accomplish. Here's the description of the upcoming film:
Held in a secret facility against their will, five new mutants have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past. They aren’t out to save the world — they’re just trying to save themselves.
The New Mutants is set to hit theaters on April 13, 2018.
