New PUNISHER Series Rumored To Be in Development with Jon Bernthal
Look, I would love nothing more than to see Jon Bernthal return to reprise his role as Frank Castle in a new Punisher project with Marvel. A lot of fans would! Fans have been asking for it and rumors have been spreading online for years that this is going to happen.
Well, the rumors continue to roll on and there are websites out there still saying that they have “confirmation” that a new Punisher series is in development with Bernthal coming back. Some of these sites include “We Got This Covered” and “Giant Freakin’ Robot”, both of which are known for creating lots of fake news for clicks.
Well, another site who claims to have inside sources is now reporting the news with details. The news comes from Small Screen and they don’t really post this kind news. They are taking a big gamble posting it, because it’s either true, which would be great for them, or it’s false, which would ruin their legitimacy.
They say, “We value our sources completely and even though we get tips and information every day, we only run with sources we trust.”
When it comes to the report, they say that “Charlie Cox, Jon Bernthal and Krysten Ritter have all been in negotiations to appear in multiple MCU projects.” They go on to say that Bernthal “really wants to play The Punisher again but has been negotiating hard on the contract.” That goes without saying.
They also add that there’s already a script for The Punisher, and their source told them:
“It sounds F***ing bad ass! It’s looking like it’ll be pretty violent – like the Netflix show. I think it’ll be the MCU’s most violent show yet. It won’t be a continuation from the previous show though. It sounds as though it’ll be a new start – probably in an alternate timeline.”
So, the series won’t be a continuation of the Netflix series and it may be set in an alternate timeline, which could happen with the introduction of the multiverse.
They go on to report that the series is “going to be a HARD R. Really violent and gory” and that “Frank Castle will be kind of a villain at the start. And he’ll be on the run.” The show is said to have have western vibes and compare it to Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven.
Obviously, if this is true, the series will either go to Hulu or Disney Plus’ STAR.
While I would love for this to be true, it’s really hard for me to believe. Please take this with a grain of salt, because this could all be false information. The hardest thing for me to believe about this and the thing that makes me question the rumor is the HARD R aspect of it. I’m just not sure Marvel Studios will go HARD R on it because they have yet to do anything like that. But, who knows! We’ll just have to wait and see.
