New Rumor Claims Marvel Studios Almost Split AVENGERS: SECRET WARS into Two Films- Could It Still Happen?
After seeing The Russo Brothers’ two-film conclusion to Marvel’s Infinity Saga, it’s clear that the next two Avengers movies, which will wrap up the Multiverse Saga, will be large-scale spectacles full of surprises and excitement.
We are scheduled to see our first look at Avengers: Doomsday this holiday season, a year out from its release, but not knowing how this first film will play out, it makes sense that we know nothing about its follow-up, Avengers: Secret Wars.
What we do expect is for it to be epic, so epic in fact that there’s a rumor that the studio considered splitting Secret Wars into two films. According to industry scooper @MyTimeToShineH (via CBM), "There was an idea to split Secret Wars at one point, but [Marvel Studios] decided against it."
There’s no word on whether this was an early concept, or something the studio rolled around recently due to the runtime or story. Could it have also been due to the fact that many fans complained the last MCU film, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, felt rushed?
It very well could have factored into the discussion, but all we know for now is that Doomsday and Secret Wars are each planned as their own singular films, and nothing has changed that we are aware of.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled to arrive on December 17, 2027.
