New Rumor Claims to Reveal Marvel's Plans for the Young Avengers/Champions in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY and Beyond
Marvel has stayed pretty quiet about their plans to bring the Young Avengers to the MCU. All we knew for a while was that they had plans to integrate the characters, but time got away from them, and they announced that they were pivoting to the Champions instead.
The two teams are distinct in the comics, but have overlapping members, and it would be easy for the MCU to just merge the crew for their purposes. There was originally a plan for a movie, which got scrapped for a series plan instead, but if a new rumor is true, we may just get the best of both worlds.
In a recent update from noted industry scooper @MyTimeToShineH (via CBM), he reports, "The Champions/Young Avengers will be in both Doomsday and Secret Wars to tease their show that will be set post Secret Wars."
The upcoming Avengers movies are a perfect place to establish this new superhero team. We have been introduced to the majority of them in their own shows and films, and it will be cool to finally see them come together, as the fight against Doctor Doom will need all hands on deck.
In terms of who will assemble as the MCU's Champions, we are expecting Billy/Wiccan (Joe Locke), Tommy/Speed (Ruaridh Mollica), Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), Kate Bishop/Hawkeye (Hailee Steinfeld), America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), and Riri Williams/Ironheart (Dominique Thorne), who are all likely contenders.
Seeing this all come together with their series will probably hinge on the success of Doomsday and Secret Wars and how these characters are received by fans. I know I’m looking forward to seeing them unite.
