New Rumor Claims to Reveal Who Will Hold the Mantle of BLACK PANTHER in Coming Years

The Black Panther franchise has had to undergo major rewrites since the heartbreaking untimely death of its star, Chadwick Boseman. After the actor lost his fight with cancer, the storyline that would have seen his T’Challa return from the blip to realize the birth of his son had occurred had to be completely reworked.

T’Challa would have built his connection to his son while battling Namor the Submariner, but what we got instead was the loss of the King of Wakanda in the MCU, the crowning of his sister in his place, and the reveal of his son at the end of the film.

As for what the future holds for Wakanda and its leadership, we know that Shuri (Letitia Wright) is set to return in Avengers: Doomsday, but is her reign for the long haul, or can we expect young Toussaint, a.k.a. T'Challa II, or even a multiversal Black Panther variant to take over sometime soon?

According to a rumor from industry scooper @MyTimeToShineh, "While they are introducing more Black Panthers, [Wright] will remain the main one for years to come."

Who knows what "years to come" exactly means, but we can probably safely agree that it at least covers the next Avengers movies, as Secret Wars isn't set to be released until the end of 2027.

However, in the comics, there's a precedent for T'Challa and Shuri both being Black Panther at the same time. While the latter served as Wakanda's monarch, T'Challa was made King of the Dead by Bast and took on more of a "warrior" role on behalf of his nation.

F1: The Movie star Damson Idris was recently asked about rumored reports that he'll play the next T'Challa and, with a smile on his face, he replied, "No, no. I don't know anything about it [Laughs]."

Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled to arrive on December 17, 2027.
