New Rumor Reportedly Reveals Giancarlo Esposito's MCU Role in CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD
Giancarlo Esposito is best known for his roles in Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, The Mandalorian, and The Boys, but pretty soon he will be adding a Marvel role to his roster, which will undoubtedly be memorable as well.
Since it was announced that he was joining the MCU in Captain America: Brave New World, his role has been kept under wraps, but a new rumor claims to reveal Esposito’s Marvel role. But before you move on, be warned there are spoilers ahead.
According to MTTSS, Esposito will be playing George Washington "G.W." Bridge. In the comics, Bridge started out as a member of the mercenary group known as the Wild Pack (later Six Pack), which was led by Cable. He'd later become a high-ranking member of S.H.I.E.L.D. as acting liaison on mutant affairs.
Most fans assumed that Esposito would be playing a villain in the MCU, as this is his “type” of character, but Bridge seems a little more ambiguous. Although, it remains to be seen how the morally dubious but ultimately heroic Bridge will be depicted in this story.
Esposito obviously hasn’t responded to this rumor, but he recently spoke to Deadline on the red carpet of the MaXXXine world premiere, where he referred to his character as a "badass," and indicated that we will see him get more physically involved in the action than he has in previous projects.
“When you see me in the MCU, you’re going to see a badass and I’m excited for that. Acting is using every part of your body, your emotions, your senses, your feelings to portray something. You haven’t really seen me use my body in a way I’ll be using it. The MCU is exciting. I can’t tell you who I play, but you’re gonna be excited when you see it.”
In the film, Anthony Mackie is back in the role of Sam Wilson, who is now Captain America. The movie also stars Liv Tyler, Shira Haas, Tim Blake Nelson, Rosa Salazar, Danny Ramirez, and Carl Lumbly.
Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox) is directing the film from a script penned by Dalan Musson and Malcolm Spellman, both of whom wrote for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Spellman will produce with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.
Captain America: Brave New World arrives on February 14, 2025.
