New Rumor States Marvel Studios is Hoping to See Robert Downey Jr. Continue to Play Doctor Doom After SECRET WARS

Robert Downey Jr. is kind of the godfather of the MCU. He starred in Iron Man (2008), the first film to kick it off, and was a mainstay in nearly every Marvel movie after until Avengers: Endgame (2019), when he sacrificed himself for the fate of the universe.

This seemed to be the end of his beloved reign, until Comic-Con 2024, when Marvel Studios announced that Downey was returning to play Doctor Doom in the next two Avengers movies.

To the casual Marvel viewer, it may seem like this would be a two-film arc, similar to the last two Avengers films, centering around the villain Thanos, who was ultimately defeated. But could Doctor Doom’s fate in these films be just the beginning?

According to a new rumor from insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios wants the former Iron Man to continue playing Doctor Doom after Secret Wars. This would mean he'd continue in the role into the Mutant Saga. But will that be as a villain for the Fantastic Four, or as the new Iron Man?

CBM points out that after the Secret Wars comic book, Doom's face was healed, and he became the "Infamous Iron Man." This seems like a crazy cool full circle story arc for RDJ’s Iron Man/Doom, but we will just have to wait and see how the next phase plays out.
