Rumor Suggests SILVER SABLE & BLACK CAT Film Will Set Up An All-Female SPIDER-VERSE Team-Up Movie
Why are movies insistent on having cinematic universes? Marvel did it, and that was fine. It was a unique idea and concept and it worked for them. Then DC jumped on board, and that kinda makes sense, because they have a whole universe of characters, why not make a universe. But now we have the Universal Picture's Dark Universe; Legendary Picture's Giant Monster Universe; The Marvel X-Men Universe; and now it looks like we might be getting a Spider-Women Cinematic Universe.
There is a new rumor from Splash Report that states Sony Pictures could be in the process of making a female-centric Spider-Woman universe, especially now after the popularity of Wonder Woman. It would be similar to the style that Marvel Universe has, but it would focus on the female Sony owned properties including Black Cat, Silver Sable, Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman, Stunner, Jackpot, and Dusk.
I love the fact that they are looking to make female-centric superhero films, I think that women can totally hold their own superhero movies! Wonder Woman is a perfect example. It was fantastic and definitely the best DCEU film that WB has made yet by a large margin. But what made the movie good was its great story with solid characters and the fantastic actors who played them. I just hope that they don't limit themselves and make a bunch of female superhero films for the sake of making a bunch of female superhero films just because that's the popular thing to do now. I want to see quality and care put into these films!
Personally, I would love to see Spider-Man meet Black Cat and Spider-Woman. Although it isn't necessary, it's just a story concept that intrigues me. I think Spider-Woman is definitely an interesting character with a great background in the Marvel Universe. Taking that away or changing it to fit in with a whole new cinematic universe would be a shame because we might get a completely different version of the character.
As of right now, this is just a rumor. But if it is true, I'll support it and hope and pray they get a talented team to develop it. I also hope that whoever comes on board to make it will make it with good intentions and not just because women superheroes are popular now.
