Rumors Claim AVENGERS: SECRET WARS Could Still Be Split in Two, Plus What Marvel Hopes for the Russos in the MCU

As usual, this is a new week, so we have some new rumors swirling around the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While this year is light regarding Marvel releases, what they lack in quantity, they are making up for in quality and the large scale action-packed type ensemble films fans have responded to in the past.

In fact, the films that are on the horizon are so big and bold, a new rumor claims to reveal that Avengers: Secret Wars, which will be next year’s follow up to this year’s Avengers: Doomsday, may still be split into two films.

This was a rumor early on after the announcement of Doomsday and Secret Wars that was dispelled by the studio, but with Doomsday still heading into reshoots, and Secret Wars beginning production this summer, it’s still a possibility.

The Hot Mic's John Rocha has revealed, "[My source] heard that Doomsday could run for three hours and that it's huge. They are considering splitting Secret Wars into two parts."

These two films will be closing out another huge chapter in the MCU, as Avengers: Infinity War & Endgame did. It would make sense that as they are finalizing the Multiverse saga, as well as introducing a new crew of characters, they’d need to do all that in a little more than two movies with 2-hour runtimes.

As for Joe and Anthony Russo, aka the Russo Brothers, who directed Infinity War and Endgame, and have returned for Doomsday and Secret Wars, another rumor has addressed Marvel’s hopes for the filmmakers beyond these two films.

@MyTimeToShineH reported this weekend that "Feige wants the Russo Brothers to be very involved with the next saga and to direct more films for them, not just Avengers."

Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier remains attached to helm the X-Men reboot, but there are several other exciting possibilities for the Russos beyond that, including Wolverine, The Fantastic Four 2, and more.

There’s a lot of excitement on the horizon for Marvel fans. Stay tuned for updates.
