New Set Photo From Michael Fassbender's ASSASSIN'S CREED Movie
After years of waiting, cameras are rolling right now on Assassin's Creed, the highly-anticipated film adaptation of the popular video game. Justin Kurzel is directing, and Michael Fassbender is starring as Callum Lynch, a new character who hasn't appeared in any of the games thus far. Fassbender's production company, DMC Film, took to Twitter a few days ago to share the first official set photo from the movie:
"Progress requires sacrifice" could double as a motto for the behind-the-scenes process of making this movie; it's taken a long time to get to this point, and Fassbender and Ubisoft want to make sure they have every element of the story thought out instead of just churning out a piece of content to hit a release date target.
Worth noting: the triangular marking on the back of the actor's neck looks like the logo for Abstergo Industries, the creators of the Animus (which is the machine that allows players to enter memories of their ancestors). It's been a while since I played an Assassin's Creed game, so I don't remember if that machine leaves that mark on the back of someone's neck when they enter it or not. Please let me know in the comments if you have any thoughts about this.
Callum Lynch discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day.
Marion Cotillard, Michael K. Williams, Ariane Labed, Brendan Gleeson, and Jeremy Irons co-star. Assassin's Creed hits theaters on December 21st, 2016.
