New SPACE JAM: A NEW LEGACY Promo Video Highlights The Easter Eggs in The Trailer
The first trailer for Space Jam: A New Legacy dropped online over the weekend and if you watched it, you saw that it was filled with all kinds of Warner Bros. Easter eggs. The film is very similar to Ready Player One in this aspect.
The story for the film is set in the “Warner 3000 Server-verse,” which contains all of the characters from Warner Bros. movies and TV shows and a new promo video has been released that dives into the Easter eggs and points out some things that you might have missed.
Some of the Easter eggs include Game of Thrones; the Emerald City, Kansas, and a tornado from The Wizard of Oz; a world dedicated to the classic movie The Maltese Falcon; Gotham City from Batman: The Animated Series and Metropolis from Superman: The Animated Series; Burgess Meredith and Danny DeVito versions of The Penguin; the Mystery Machine from Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?; and stuff from The Iron Giant, King Kong, The Flintstones, Thundercats, Wonder Woman, The Joker, Mad Max: Fury Road, Jabberjaw, The Jetsons, Magilla Gorilla, Yogi Bear, Wacky Races, and even the gang from A Clockwork Orange, which is super weird because this is a gang of rapists and violent criminals. They put them in the film, but made sure to cut out Pepe Le Pew?
Anyway, there are a lot of characters to look for and find in the movie.
Space Jam: A New Legacy was directed by Malcolm D. Lee (Barbershop: The Next Cut, Girls Trip, Night School). “When LeBron James and his young son Dom (Cedric Joe) are trapped in a digital space by a rogue A.I., LeBron must get them home safe by leading Bugs, Lola Bunny and the whole gang of notoriously undisciplined Looney Tunes to victory over the A.I.’s digitized champions on the court: a powered-up roster of professional basketball stars as you’ve never seen them before. It’s Tunes versus Goons in the highest-stakes challenge of his life, that will redefine LeBron’s bond with his son and shine a light on the power of being yourself. The ready-for-action Tunes destroy convention, supercharge their unique talents and surprise even ‘King’ James by playing the game their own way.”
The film is being produced by Ryan Coogler and the film also stars Star Trek: Discovery's Sonequa Martin-Green who was cast as LeBron's wife, Don Cheadle as the rogue AI named Al-G Rhythm, Ceyair Wright who plays the older son Darius, and Harper Leigh Alexander as his daughter Xosha.
Space Jam: A New Legacy arrives in theaters on July 16, 2021.
