We’ve got only one month before Star Trek: Lower Decks returns to Paramount+ for its second season, and to help build some hype and excitement, we’ve got a new clip to share with you!

In the clip, we see Ensign Mariner (Tawny Newsome) and Boimler (Jack Quaid) in their Starfleet dress uniforms, making a messy getaway in a vehicle aboard a Starfleet space station. The scene is totally inspired by a scene in The Blue Brothers, and I include the clip from that so you can compare the two. I thought that was pretty cool!

The series comes from Mike McMahan, the writer and producer of Rick and Morty, and it follows a support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least important ships in the fleet, the U.S.S. Cerritos. The story is set in 2380, and it centers on the characters Ensigns Mariner, Boimler, Rutherford, and Tendi, who “have to keep up with their duties and their social lives, often while the ship is being rocked by a multitude of sci-fi anomalies.”

The cast for the series also includes Noël Wells (Master of None), Eugene Cordero (The Good Place), Dawnn Lewis (Veronica Mars), Jerry O’Connell (Jerry Maguire), Fred Tatasciore (American Dad!), and Gillian Vigman (The Hangover).

Paramount+ also revealed that Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 2 will premiere on Thursday, August 12th.
