New STAR TREK Movie Will Be Directed by ANDOR Director Toby Haynes
Paramount Pictures is moving forward with a new Star Trek movie and they’ve hired a new writer and director to develop it. Toby Haynes (Andor, Sherlock, Black Mirror) will direct the movie that is said to expand on the Star Trek universe, and Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter) is going to write the script. J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot is producing.
All we know about the film so far is that it’s “an origin story that takes place decades before the 2009 Star Trek film that rebooted the franchise.” This is an interesting creative team for the project, and while we’ve got a long way to go, I’m curious to see what comes of it… if it actually gets made.
As you know, Paramount Pictures has been having a rough time getting another Star Trek movie off the ground. They’ve been trying to get a Star Trek 4 movie made for years! Speaking of which, the report points out that this is a different project from Star Trek 4, which is still in active development. It’s said that will be “the final chapter in that main series.”
While the studio has had a rough go with getting a Star Trek movie made, Paramount+ has been killing it with their Star Trek shows with Picard and Strange New Worlds. I’m really excited about that Picard movie that Patrick Stewart recently revealed is in development!
