New STAR WARS Detail Confirms Anakin Skywalker Heard and Ignored Qui-Gon Jinn During a Dark Moment in ATTACK OF THE CLONES

A new Star Wars novel that’s coming our way sheds some light on a dark pivotal moment for Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. It’s the moment where Anakin returns to Tatooine to find and save his mother after having dreams that she was in pain.

When Anakin gets there, he learns that his mom was taken by Tusken Raiders during one of their recent attacks on the area. So, he goes after them. He ends up finding his mom in a tent at a Tusken Raider camp. She had been badly beaten and tortured, and she ends up dying in Anakin’s arms.

As the rage in Anakin builds, he lashes out and massacres the entire tribe of Tusken Raiders. At this moment the film cuts away back to Yoda in the Jedi Temple and in that process, we hear Qui-Gon Jinn's voice yell, "Anakin! Anakin! No!"

Due to the awkward editing of this scene, fans have not been able to agree on how to actually interpret the scene. I personally always thought that it was Yoda hearing the voice of Qui-Gon Jinn in this moment sensing Anakin’s turn to hatred and giving in to the Dark Side.

Well, it turns out that it was Anakin that heard the voice of his former Jedi Master and he completely ignored it. This little detail was confirmed in the upcoming Star Wars Novel Queen's Hope by E.K. Johnston from a new excerpt that was shared.

This is the third book in a trilogy that focused on Padmé Amidala and the story finds Padmé and Anakin on their wedding day. Before they get married, Anakin pays respect to Qui-Gon at the planet's shrine dedicated to Qui-Gon’s sacrifice, having died at the hands of Darth Maul there years before. It’s at this moment Anakin recalls hearing Qui-Gon's voice on Tatooine and dismissing it at the time:

"He'd heard Qui-Gon's voice in the desert, begging him to listen to his better nature, not to give in to his hatred. He hadn't listened. At the time, he'd told himself he was imagining it, but he knew he was lying. If Qui-Gon was out there, somehow, Anakin owed him an apology. And he would always appreciate the Master's advice.

"But he found nothing. Anakin looked deeper. There was so much fighting in his future, but it was all for the good of the Republic, for order. Maybe that was what Qui-Gon wanted him to see. There was always a way for him to make it right."

It’s interesting to see how Anakin twists his thoughts to justify his actions in this respect. This is just gives fans a little clarity on Anakin and his turn to the Dark Side.
