Right now we have three Star Wars films in various stages of production, The Last Jedi, the Untitled Han Solo Spinoff and Episode IX. The Last Jedi is set for release this year on December 15th, the Han's Solo pic is scheduled to hit theaters on May 25, 2018, and Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled for May 23, 2019. But we have not heard any confirmation on any releases past that until today! Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy says we need to prepare to add one more to that list. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Kennedy was asked if any new productions beyond the Han Solo film will be announced soon, she responded:
"Yes. We haven’t identified it yet, but yes. We have a couple of things right now that we’re circling, and we’ll make a decision between the two pretty shortly. It’s probably for 2020, and we will make a decision by June."
Narrowed down to two, huh? I wonder who the next standalone would feature? Well, rumors suggest Obi-Wan Kenobi or Boba Fett are on deck for their own feature. Boba Fett may be more likely since the film was already previously in development with director Josh Trank (Fantastic Four) before he left the project. But I guess we'll have to wait a few more weeks to know for sure. What do you think? Who would you like to see a standalone movie for?
