New Story and Character Details Revealed For Showtime's DEXTER Revival; John Cusack May Join The Cast

A revival of the serial killer series Dexter is in development at Showtime and fans have been excited about seeing the story of Michael C. Hall’s character continue. Well, we’ve got some new details to share with you today regarding the story and the character that Dexter will find himself up against in the story.

The series is set 10 years after Dexter Morgan went missing in the eye of Hurricane Laura, “the revival sees the character now living under an assumed name in a world away from Miami.” It was explained that the Dexter revival is not a new season of the original; it’s “technically considered a closed-ended revival though it does continue the original series.“

According to The Illuminerdi, Dexter will find himself facing off with a "50 year old man named Kurt." This character will have a season-long story arc over the course of the ten-episode limited series. “Kurt was born in a Northeast American town, where our story seems to take place, and eventually became a trucker. After trucking for many years, he came to own the local truck stop in town, and established himself as a beloved leader in the community.”

He’s described as a “handsome, commanding man, a true man of the people”, who pulled himself up by the bootstraps and realized the American dream. His son, “Matthew has created many ‘messes’ over the years, messes that are cleaned up by Kurt with wealth he has amassed throughout his lifetime.”

I can only imagine that the “messes” mentioned are Matthew’s murder victims. Showtime and the producers of the series are looking at casting John Cusack in the role of Kurt, which would be fantastic! I love John Cusack and it would be so cool to see him join this revival of Dexter. They did approach Tim Robbins for the role, but he turned it down.

Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips previously talked about developing the series, saying:

"We basically do get to start from scratch. … Ten years, or however many years, have passed by the time this will air, and the show will reflect that time passage. So far as the ending of the show, this will have no resemblance to how the original finale was. It’s a great opportunity to write a second finale.

"We’re not undoing anything. We’re not going to betray the audience and say, ‘Whoops, that was all a dream.’ What happened in the first eight years, happened in the first eight years.”

The next chapter of Dexter is scheduled to start shooting in January of next year.
