New Story Details Revealed For STRANGER THINGS Season 3 and it Will Reference BACK TO THE FUTURE
As the cast and crew of Stranger Things prepare to start production on Season 3, we've learned a few new story details regarding some of the story elements of what we can expect to see thanks to a recent Q&A held at the Dobly Theater.
Executive producer Shawn Levy revealed that the third season would take place one year after the second season, so that would set it during the summer of 1985. He went on to talk about the relationships of the teen characters. When the story picks up Eleven (Millie Bobbie Brown) and Mike (Finn Wolfhard) will be a couple as will Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) and Max (Sadie Sink).
It's at this event that Brown, who plays Eleven, learned that she would be in a relationship with Mike. Apparently, they haven't seen any scripts or story details either. Levy says:
"Mike and Eleven and are going strong, so that's a relationship that continues, and same with Mad Max and Lucas. But Again, they're like 13 or 14-year-old kids, so what does romance mean at that stage of life? It can never be simple and stable relationships and there's fun to that instability."
Levy also went on to say that Steve Harrington, who is played by Joe Keery, will have a bigger role in the story for this upcoming season.
"We'll definitely get to see some more of Steve Harrington in season three, and I'll just say we won't be abandoning the Dad Steve magic. I don't want to say much more, but I literally feel that we were walking along and we stumbled onto a gold mine with Dad Steve."
Levy also says that the 1985 Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg film Back to the Future will be a reference in Season 3 as well. I'm sure you all recall that Ghostbusters was a big reference in Season 2, so I imagine Back to the Future may have just as big of an influence in Season 3.
Stranger Things Season 3 will go into production soon. Levy revealed that "We are going back to work this month."
This is such a great show. I love story that it's telling, the era that it's set in, and most importantly the characters that fill it. Like all of you, I'm excited to see what dark and crazy adventure awaits these characters in Season 3!
