New Story Details Revealed For The Coen Bros. Western Series THE BALLAD OF BUSTER SCRUGGS

Earlier this year is was announced that The Coen Bros. would be writing and directing a western anthology series called The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. We haven't really heard much about the series since, but today we have some interesting new story details.

I'm a big fan of the Coen Bros. and I've been excited about this show. It was previously revealed that the series "intends to pursue an innovative approach that could combine television and theatrical." We now know that the anthology series will tell six different western stories and thanks to The Albuquerque Journal, we now have the title of each episode of the series with a brief plot summary. Check out the details below:

“The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” is about a singing cowboy.

“Near Algodones” is about a high-plains drifter whose own fecklessness dogs his attempts at bank robbery and cattle driving.

The third story, “Meal Ticket,” follows an actor and impresario of a traveling show.

The fourth, “All Gold Canyon,” is about a prospector who happily finds a gold seam but then unhappily finds an evil encroacher.

The fifth, “The Gal Who Got Rattled,” follows two trail bosses on the Oregon Trail and a woman on the wagon train who needs the help of one of them and who might be a marriage prospect for the other.

Lastly, “The Mortal Remains,” about the five very different passengers on a stagecoach of mysterious destination.

Joel and Ethan Coen are such great storytellers and I can't wait to see how each of these episodes play out. It'll be great to see the filmmakers play with the Western genre a bit more and each of these episodes have an interesting premise that could be a lot of fun. They previously directed a remake of the western True Grit, which turned out great.

There's no word on who will be starring in each episode of this new project, but I can't help but think they'll be able to put together an all-star cast... if that's what they want to do.

They will start shooting the series later this month and it should end up being released sometime in 2018.
