New Story Details for the SONS OF ANARCHY Spinoff Series MAYANS MC
While Kurt Sutter is prepping to start production on his Sons of Anarchy spinoff series Mayans MC, we have some new story and character details to share with you thanks to Deadline. Up until this point, the only thing we had was the original synopsis that was released by FX, which said:
Mayans MC is set in a post Jax Teller world, where EZ Reyes (JD Pardo), a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the Cali/Mexi border, struggles with his desire for vengeance against the cartel, and his need for respect from the women he loves.
The latest synopsis that was released offers us some new details on the main character EZ Reyes and the world that he's involved with.
Set in the aftermath of Jax Teller’s death at the end of SOA’s seven-season run in 2014, Mayans MC will focus on the struggles of Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes, a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the California/Mexico border. EZ is the gifted son of a proud Latino family, whose American dream was snuffed out by cartel violence. Now, his need for vengeance drives him toward a life he never intended and can never escape.
It doesn't specify what EZ is "gifted" in, but I'm sure it will one of the things he'll get good at is kicking people's asses. According to this new synopsis, he'll be hell bent on getting revenge against the cartel that killed his American dream.
So far the series also stars Edward James Olmos as the Reyes family patriarch Felipe Reyes, who will try to keep his family on a lawful and righteous path despite his shady past; Antonio Jaramillo as Mayans MC Vice President, Michael 'Riz' Ariza; Clayton Cardenas as EZ's brother, who feels like a lesser-child; John Ortiz as Esai “Taino” Osorio, "President of Mayans MC, Santo Padre Charter. A Mexi-Rican, he was born in the Bronx, then sent to Oakland to live with his cousin, Marcus Alvarez, founder and National President of Mayans MC. Like his cousin, he is as smart as he is deadly."
The newest edition to the cast is Richard Cabral, who will play Johnny “El Coco” Cruz, "a full patch member of Mayans MC, Santo Padre. Former Army sharpshooter and weapons specialist, Johnny earned a section 8 for shooting a cigar out of his CO’s mouth from a half-mile away… while he was stoned."
I loved Sons of Anarchy, and Mayans MC seems to be shaping up to be another great series.
