New STRANGER THINGS 4 Photos and This Season Will Lean "Much Harder Into Horror Movie Territory"
The first three seasons of Stranger Things have featured all kinds of crazy and horrific things. The show loves to play with elements from classic films that many of us grew up with, and it will continue to do that. But, this next season is going to lean “much harder into horror movie territory,” which is sure to get fans excited about what is coming. We also have four new photos to share with you.
According to co-creator Ross Duffer, with the kids now older, the spirit of The Goonies and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is being left behind, and it will be replaced by the spirit of films that are much darker.
Ross told Netflix’s Tudum publication, “When we pitched it to Netflix all those years ago, we pitched it as the kids are…The Goonies in E.T. That’s their storyline. And the adults are in Jaws and Close Encounters and then the teens are in Nightmare on Elm Street or Halloween. But, this year, we don’t have the kids. We can’t do The Goonies anymore. And so, suddenly, we’re leaning much harder into that horror movie territory that we love. It was fun to make that change.”
Ross goes on to say that he thinks fans “will be happy” when they finally get to see Stranger Things 4, and says that some of the fan theories circulating online about the new season are “startlingly” accurate. He says, “I’m constantly impressed with how sharp the fans are, and how quickly they’re able to put something together with very, very little information.”
In Stranger Things 4, “It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time — and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier. In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.”
The Duffer Bros. previously shared that, “Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more.”
The series stars Millie Bobbie Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Natalia Dyer, and they will be joined by newcomers Robert Englund, Jamie Campbell Bower, Joseph Quinn, Tom Wlaschiha, Sherman Augustus, Mason Dye, and Nikola Djuricko.
Stranger Things 4 is being split into two parts. Season 4, Volume 1 arrives May 27th on Netflix, followed by Volume 2 on July 1st.
