New STRANGER THINGS Season 3 Details Reveal a Possible New Villain

The plot for Stranger Things season three is mostly shrouded in mystery. There’s so much we don’t know about the where the story is going to take these characters, but some new information has leaked that may reveal a new villain they will find themselves facing.

If you don’t want to know anything…

There’s a good chance that our favorite characters may find themselves facing off with the Soviet Union. A Reddit user noticed that IMDb listed several cast members of the third season as Russian Guard and Russian Soldier. Those descriptions have since been removed:

“Does anyone aware that there is a cast information per season available on IMDB? Does that imply that this is a full cast for an episode? Or some cast members have to withhold this information prior to the release. I had a difficulty finding Modine in the credits list, so I assume a return of Brenner for Season 3 is in question.

“As of December 16, 2018: IMDB Credits referring to as Russian solder, were removed, now they are just described as Guard, Solder, etc.

“Hmmmm.... someone is reading this post.”

Not all of descriptions were removed though. Inverse found that someone missed one of the credits that refers to a Russian Guard.

With the series being set in 1985, it would make sense that the Russians would be some kind of threat. Maybe they are involved with mysterious and supernatural experiments of their own. It’s not hard to believe that they will fit into the story somehow, we just don’t know exactly how they will fit it. I’ll leave that up to you to speculate about.

Maybe, the Soviet Union will invade and take over Hawkins like in the 1984 film Red Dawn!

There aren’t a lot of story details that have been revealed for season three, but producer Shawn Levy has said in the past that season three will be the "most ambitious" chapter of Stranger Things yet, and it will be influenced by John Carpenter. He said:

"I can not go into the specific but as you saw the second season has become more cinematic, much more based on the characters than the first and this evolution will continue with the third. It will be the season with more action than all."

He went on to tease Carpenter's influence on the series, saying, "there will be very much the ghost of John Carpenter and other '80s horror directors." This is on top of the previously revealed inspiration of the 1985 Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg film Back to the Future.

They also teased the relationships of the teen characters. When the story picks up, Eleven and Mike will be a couple, as will Lucas and Max. He also said that Steve Harrington will have a bigger role in the story this time around.

Stranger Things season three stars Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Noah Schnapp as Will, Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Chief Jim Hopper, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Cara Buono as Karen Wheeler, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, Dacre Montgomery as Billy, and Sadie Sink as Max.

Stranger Things 3 is rumored to debut on Netflix in Summer 2019.
