New STRANGER THINGS Season 5 Clip Teases How Will Byers Could Finally Kill Vecna
The endgame of Stranger Things is coming into focus, and a newly revealed clip from Season 5 Volume 2 hints that Will Byers might be the key to ending Vecna once and for all.
The footage, unveiled by the Duffer Brothers during their recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, sets up a potentially devastating plan that puts Will right back at the center of the Upside Down.
During the show, Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer talked with Jimmy Fallon about the series’ massive and somewhat unexpected success, along with the endless fan theories that have flooded the internet over the years.
The trio even played a lighthearted game using Funko Pops to tease the show’s final moments, but the real excitement came when Fallon rolled a never-before-seen clip from Season 5 Volume 2.
The scene opens with Joyce Byers laying out a high-risk strategy to take down Vecna for good. Surrounded by Will, Mike, Lucas, Erica, Robin, and Murray, Joyce explains that the group needs to get Will close to the Hive Mind and have him “jack back in.”
This time, though, the goal isn’t survival. Joyce makes it clear that Will wouldn’t be targeting a single creature. Instead, she believes he could kill Vecna and his entire army with “one blow.”
After presenting the plan, Joyce looks to the group for feedback, only to be met with an awkward pause. Robin eventually breaks the silence, telling Joyce that she has a great plan before turning to Murray to see what he thinks.
Murray agrees, though his support comes with visible hesitation. Robin then looks to Will and asks if he took out the Demogorgon that threatened her, Mike, and Lucas at the end of Volume 1 using only his mind. Before Will can answer, Mike jumps in and points out that Will actually took out three Demogorgons.
The conversation briefly shifts to the limits and potential of Will’s powers, until Joyce cuts through the noise, clearly frustrated and eager to keep everyone focused on the task at hand.
Will and Vecna’s connection has always been one of the core threads of Stranger Things. Season 5 Volume 1 opened with a flashback that revisited their very first encounter, reinforcing how deeply intertwined their fates are.
Now, with Will having fully awakened abilities and Vecna still looming as the ultimate threat, the idea that Will could be the one to end it all feels both fitting and terrifying.
Fans won’t have to wait much longer to see how this plan plays out. Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2 premieres on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, with the series finale landing just days later on December 31, 2025.
If Joyce’s plan works, the final battle could hinge on Will Byers facing the darkness head-on and ending it with a single, decisive strike.
